Dear 5th Grade Dawson Students and Parents,

We are so happy you are going to Camp Pali with us. The following is a list of reminders for our trip scheduled for May 19-21, 2008.  It is also a list of responses to the most frequently asked questions.

  • Please arrive at Dawson by 6:15 AM so we can begin loading buses. Buses will depart at 6:30 AM sharp on Monday morning, May 19th. Don’t be late! We should return to campus between 4:00-4:30 PM on Wednesday, May 21st. We will call the school with an approximate arrival time when we are nearing Las Vegas.

  • Please leave Ipods, cellular phones and other electronics at home. This rule will be strictly enforced both on the bus and at Camp Pali.

  • Snacks and water will be provided for the students on our trip out.  We will schedule a quick rest stop for the journey out and back.  Students will be provided with a sack lunch from Pali for our return trip.

  • Students will have the opportunity to visit the Pali Student Store while at camp.  They are welcome to bring a small amount of money for purchases.

  • Students do not have to wear their school uniforms for the Pali trip.  A packing list is provided with necessary and unnecessary items. Please make sure you child has a warm coat and sweat shirt. Please label everything.

  • Your child will not have access to a cell phone or e-mail during their stay.  Please call the Pali office if you have an emergency situation and need to contact your child.  The office number is (909) 867-5743.  We remind you that homesickness seldom occurs during these short 3-day trips due to the fact that the children are very busy with activities and classes.  In the rare case of an emergency in the middle of the night please call the Pali office at (909) 867-5743 or (702) 610-6040 for Mrs. Grant or (702) 528-2873 for Mrs. Garner.

  • A number of students take prescription medications and/or vitamins on a regular or as-needed basis.  In cooperation with Pali Institute’s regulations regarding medications we ask that you properly package any medications or vitamins your child is bringing on the trip.  Prescription medications must be packaged by a pharmacy in daily-labeled doses.  All medications and vitamins should be placed in a plastic bag which is labeled with your child’s name.  These will be handed to Mrs. Garner or Mrs. Grant before boarding the bus.  All medications and vitamins will be kept in the health center so that the registered nurse may distribute them.  Students may not store or administer their own medications in their cabins.  The only exceptions are students carrying inhalers or an epi-pen for emergency use.  If you send medication with your child that is not listed on the health form, please include a signed note listing each medication and its dosage.

We are looking forward to sharing this exciting experience with your children. You may reference the Pali Parent Packet online at the address below.

Unnecessary Items

To avoid the loss of valuable items, the following items must remain at home: cell Phones, video games, computers, and other expensive electronics. Cell phones are not permitted at Pali as reception is almost non-existent and we find it distracts from the learning environment. We cannot guarantee any of these items’ safekeeping and will not replace them if lost. Please do not bring aerosol cans or any flammable items. Food and candy are not allowed. They will be collected upon arrival, as Camp Pali does not allow these items in the cabins. Snacks and meals on the bus will be provided. Students do not need more items than what is listed on the packing list. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. J
