March 18, 2009

Dear 5th Grade Dawson Parents and Students,

We are so excited about this year’s trip to Camp Pali scheduled for May 18-20, 2009. The following is a list of reminders and responses to the most frequently asked questions regarding the trip:

Traveling Details

DEPARTURE: We will begin loading buses at 6:15 a.m. and buses will depart at 6:30 a.m. sharp on Monday morning, May 18th.

RETURN: We should return to campus between 4:00-4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20st. We will call the school with an approximate arrival time when we are nearing Las Vegas.

Snacks and water will be provided for the students on our trip out. We will schedule a quick rest stop for the journey out and back. Students will be provided with a box lunch at Pali for our return trip.

What to Wear & Pack

Students do not need to wear their school uniforms for the Pali trip.

Please refer to the packing list provided.

Contacting Camp Pali

Your child will not have access to a cell phone or e-mail during their stay.

Please call the Pali office if you have an emergency and need to contact your child.

The office number is (909) 867-5743.

In the rare case of an emergency in the middle of the night, please call the Pali office at (909) 867-5743 or (702) 610-6040 for Mrs. Grant or (702) 528-2873 for Mrs. Garner.

Mail

If you would like to send mail to your child during their stay, there are two methods, explained below.

Please do not send food or candy because it attracts bugs and animals.

Mail takes quite a few days to arrive at Pali, so please send letters 5-7 days before you want your child to receive them.

Mail that arrives after your child departs will be disposed of and will not be returned.

Cuisine

One of the highlights of Camp Pali is their excellent cuisine.

Vegetarian options will be available, provided that your child’s preference was indicated when filling out the health form via the “Parent Pack” forms.

Pali Camp Store

The Camp Store has a wide variety of items ranging from sweatshirts to lip balm.

The Pali Store is 100% optional and it is not a requirement that your student bring money.

The store sells Pali t-shirts for approximately $15 to $22, sweatshirts for $28 to $32, hats for $15 to $20, other Pali logo items, etc.

Medications

A number of students take prescription medications and/or vitamins on a regular or as-needed basis.

Pali Institute’s regulations regarding medications require that you properly package any medications or vitamins your child is bringing on the trip.

Prescription medications must be packaged by a pharmacy in daily-labeled doses.

All medications and vitamins should be placed in a plastic bag which is labeled with your child’s name. These should be given to Mrs. Garner or Mrs. Grant before boarding the bus.

All medications and vitamins will be kept in the health center so that the registered nurse may distribute them. Students may not store or administer their own medications in their cabins.

The only exceptions are students carrying inhalers or an EpiPen for emergency use. If you send medication with your child that you did not list on their health form, please include a signed note listing each medication and its dosage. We are looking forward to sharing this exciting experience with your children. Please make sure to access the Pali website and register your child online at the “Parent Pack” link on the Camp Pali website in the next two weeks. Directions to logging on to the “Parent Pack” are attached.

Sincerely,

The Dawson Fifth Grade Team
