CSI

Detective Squad Information: What We Know

CSI: Dawson Beach

The victim in this case is Felix Navidad. Felix grew up with a lot of expensive things, but not very much love. He dropped out of college in his freshman year, and never kept a job for more than a month at a time. Felix was not very well-liked because he continually criticized everyone and everything around him. He was not a very happy person. To make matters even worse, less than a year ago, Felix's parents were killed in a freak bungee-jumping accident. As a result of this tragedy, however, Felix inherited a considerable amount of money.

Felix had just recently bought a new place. It was a two-bedroom one-bath beach house located in a very expensive neighborhood. He was still in the process of remodeling his cottage when he decided to throw a weekend housewarming party for four of his closest friends. Although Felix considered these people to be his best friends, none of them liked him very much, and they probably only accepted the invitation because he had recently announced that they were all named equally in his will.

All four of Felix’s guests are suspects in the case. Alfredo, one of the suspects, says he found Felix’s body at 3:00 in the afternoon, and then called for the others to come. When the police arrived, they found no external injuries and no blood on the victim’s body. The body disappeared on the way to the morgue, before an autopsy could be performed to figure out how he died. We not only don’t know who killed Felix, if it was a murder, but we don’t even know how he died! There is even some speculation that Felix is not dead, but staged the crime for his own reasons. Reports that he has been seen at the local bus station have not been confirmed.

The task of solving this crime now rests in the hands of the detectives and forensic scientists assigned to collect and examine the physical evidence left at the beach house. It is up to them to try to piece together the story of how Felix came to this bitter end, if indeed he did.

Alexa's Essay

I think that C.S.I. Dawson Beach was definitely a great experience. It was educational and also very fun. It was definitely worth wile and should be repeated. I think this because it also taught about how to deal, and how the different jobs deal with a murder without scaring us. If I could change something it probably would have been to extend the "investigation" maybe by doing only one or two labs a day. This would extend the fun of C.S.I. and also develop more questions and conclusions from the students. The only other thing that I might change would be having the crime scene open longer. This would enable the students to have a chance to really study the evidence and not be rushed knowing that that is the only day they will be able to look at the crime scene.

From this "experiment", I have found the job of forensic scientists very intriguing. Even though I would not be interested as making it my job, I loved dealing with the science activity that allowed you to match fingerprints, footprints, and DNA. The tests that we preformed were my favorite part of C.S.I. Dawson Beach. If I had been in charge of the tests about different patterns and prints, I would have done everything the same except I would have had just like the fingerprints, that actual footprints to match with instead of just having a printed copy. Also, if I had taken charge of this activity I would have probably brought the pair of shoes the suspects were wearing and put clues on the shoes.

From this whole experience, I have learned how much work is really put into a crime scene. I was surprised at the amount of different labs and jobs that were incorporated in a murder that was not even an important guy. This whole activity really changed my view of a detective. I used to think that they just got the clues and boom, the answer was right there but boy was I wrong. I realized that the crime scene could have been contaminated, there may be red-hairing objects, and it may be set up by the murderer themselves. Now I know if I ever am a detective in a case not to come to sudden conclusions like I did in the activity.
